Show your heart some love by joining us for the Heart Walk
We like to think of ourselves as a philanthropic bunch. We like to get together to support different causes and charities; over the years, we’ve gotten a lot of joy from giving back to the community that has given so much to us. Between the twenty of us, we’ve participated in movements like Read to Succeed, Heart of Africa, Cape Rotary Club, La Croix Church, Happy Slapowitz’s Toy Bash Respire Haiti, Salvation Army and The United Way.
This year we’re adding a new cause to our list. On March 24, we’ll be walking American Heart Association’s Heart Walk. In the US, heart disease is the cause of one in every four deaths and stroke is the fifth leading cause of death. Millions of people suffer from heart related illnesses like high cholesterol, diabetes and high blood pressure.
This year, AHA’s local branch has a goal of raising $90,000 and we’ve pledged to raise $1,000 of that.
Different folks on the team have different motivators. Toni Keesee (VP of Digital Strategy) says she’s excited to get involved because she supports the idea of raising awareness for a cause with her Element 74 team. “Any time we can pull together as a team for the betterment of the community is great,” she said. “It’s good for bonding as a team and for our community so it’s a win win.”
For some of our team members, heart health hits close to home. For our intern Breanne, it was her grandfather who suffered a severe heart attack while driving. Thanks to the efforts of the medical community, after a few years, he was able to make a full recovery, his heart improving from working at 40 percent to 100 percent.
